Friday free for all

It’s like Tuesday Tidbits except on Friday:

* The latest SDSU football verbal: receiver Deondre Moore from Fairview, Tenn. The 6-foot-1, 165-pounder caught 59 passes for 1,010 yards with 18 touchdowns as a senior in addition to handling return duties.
Moore said he also had offers from Tennessee-Martin, Austin Peay and Delta State. Here’s his highlight reel. (Related note: Moore said he was offered by SDSU almost immediately after the staff saw his tape.) He’s the fourth receiver in this class and the first one shorter than 6-foot-4. He considers himself an all-around threat with possession and speed abilities.

* The SDSU wrestling team will go West River this weekend, taking on Wyoming at 2 p.m. Sunday at Black Hills State in Spearfish. In addition to the dual, the Jacks will host an alumni gathering and – in theory – gain some visibility in terms of support, recruiting, etc.
“We’re going to have a ton of fans out there,” first-year coach Chris Bono said. “It’s going to be a great way to showcase our program.”
The Cowboys (6-3) are ranked 15th in the latest USA Today poll. This is the Western Wrestling Conference opener for the Jacks.

* Big win for the SDSU men’s basketball team Thursday night, staying in the Summit League regular-season race with a 59-53 road win before a raucous crowd and against a team that had won 11 in a row. A loss would have dropped the Jacks to 4-3 in league play and moved the Necks to 7-0, meaning a three-game spread with nine to play. Instead, SDSU pull to within a game of WIU, which hosts 7-0 NDSU on Saturday in another key contest.
Plus, the Jacks stayed on track to perhaps get another nationally televised game for BracketBusters. Pairings will be announced Jan. 28, and Summit commissioner Tom Douple is of the mind that being in the top 100 of RPI should net a TV appearance.
The four most likely Summit contenders (NDSU, WIU, SDSU and Oakland) will play each other a total of 12 times during the regular season. Five of those have been played already, and this marks the first win by a road team. Of course, the Jacks needed to earn that distinction given that they suffered an upset loss at USD.
