Weekend preview: IUPUI and Western Illinois

Here is a look ahead to a massive weekend in South Dakota State hoops - will the Jackrabbits gain a share of one or both Summit League regular-season titles. I’ll have live coverage from Brookings today and Saturday in the final two home games in the careers of Nate Wolters and Tony Fiegen:

Men (19-7, 10-3)
Thursday vs. IUPUI (6-20, 1-11), 7 p.m.
Sagarin says: Jacks by 18
Streaks and such: SDSU has won five in a row in the series a conference record 28 in a row at home
Of note: This could be a first-round tournament pairing as the Jaguars are in last place in the league by two games. … The contest will air live on Fox College Sports and Midco Sports Net. … The Jacks prevailed 80-65 earlier this season at IUPUI. … The Jags have lost 10 in a row, their last victory coming in 2012. … SDSU will clinch the top seed for the Summit League tournament if it wins out in conference play.

Saturday vs. Western Illinois (18-5, 10-2), 4 p.m.
Sagarin says: Jacks by 7
Streaks and such: SDSU has won eight in a row in the series
Of note: The game will air on Fox College Sports and Midco Sports Net. … WIU is No. 19 in the mid-major poll, while SDSU is 21st. NDSU is No. 20 and will host the Necks on Thursday. … The Jacks won the first meeting this season 59-53 on the road, snapping the Necks’ 11-game win streak. … This game will feature the Summit leaders in scoring (Nate Wolters), assists (Nate Wolters) and rebounds (Terell Parks). 

Women (19-6, 11-1)
Thursday at IUPUI (14-9, 7-3), 6 p.m.

Streaks and such: SDSU has won five in a row
Of note: This is No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the Summit League. SDSU can wrap up at least a share of the regular-season title - that would be four in six years - with a win. … IUPUI took the first meeting this season by one point at Frost Arena, its first-ever win in the 13-game series. … The Jags have won three in a row since a 20-point home loss to third-place South Dakota. … SDSU leads the Summit in scoring offense (66.1) and scoring defense (59.3) followed in both categories by IUPUI (64.2 and 58.6). 

Saturday at Western Illinois (10-13, 3-7), 4:30 p.m.

Streaks and such:  SDSU has won 11 in a row in the series
Of note: SDSU fell two spots to No. 15 in this week’s mid-major poll. … The Jacks won the first meeting this season by 35 at Frost Arena. … WIU has lost five in a row since a road victory at NDSU, reaching 60 points only once in that span. The margin in those games: 3, 1, 2, 5 and 8. … Jacks senior sub Katie Lingle leads the Summit in field-goal percentage (50.0), just ahead of teammate Megan Waytashek (49.8).
