The second game of the South Dakota State vs. Buffalo series - Game 1 was part of the BracketBusters series in the 2011-12 season - will have to wait. Maybe?
The teams definitely won’t meet tonight in Buffalo as scheduled; a massive storm in upstate New York prevented the Jackrabbits from making the trip. The respective staffs are discussing a possible makeup date, but availability for both teams is in short supply in light of the impending conference dockets.
The problem isn’t just getting there, it’s that flight patterns and availabilities are goofy across the country at the moment due to scattered weather issues. To wit, the SDSU women’s basketball team is going to bus home from South Bend, Ind., because of a flight cancellation.
When and if SDSU does make the trip, senior guard Chad White will make the trip. He missed the Kansas City game due to a minor knee surgery conducted during Christmas break. Coach Scott Nagy said that White was going to be a game-day decision for Friday. Of course, the priority is having him available for the Summit League opener Thursday at IUPUI. That doesn’t seem to be in doubt.
Also, the stomach flu has been working its way through the SDSU roster so there could be another absence or two if the contest can be played.
The Bulls are 6-4 this season, their first under former Duke standout guard Bobby Hurley. They’re slated to host Northern Illinois in the MAC opener Wednesday night.
Their top player remains the same as two years ago: Forward Javon McCrea. The 6-foot-7 senior is putting up 17.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
