Tuesday Tidbits

Is anybody else glad that the college football season is here? Didn’t think so …

The new south-end bleachers are complete at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. That’s where the band and the student overflow will go. Unofficially, the look is solid - nicer than the visiting bleachers. See for yourself:

Word on the street is that new SDSU baseball assistant Brian Grunzke is a recruiting ace, especially in Minnesota - a state with just one NCAA Division I baseball program. Here’s a story on his departure from Illinois-Springfield.

Jacks fans have another reason to pay attention to the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League: Former SDSU receiver Glen Fox has signed with the team after helping Arizona reach the Arena Bowl. Ex-Jacks offensive lineman Mitch Erickson is also on Omaha’s protected list.

From the what-does-it-all-mean file, the SDSU volleyball team went 3-1 in a season-opening tournament in Statesboro, Ga., beating Montana State, Georgia Southern and Jacksonville. The Jacks finished 175th in RPI last year, while the teams they topped were 73rd (GSU), 235th (Jacksonville) and 275th (Montana State). The team that upended SDSU - Stephen F. Austin - was 207th.

And, finally, we continue our position-by-position video preview of the SDSU football team. Today, co-defensive coordinator Jay Bubak breaks down the linebackers.
